Downloading and Georeferencing Aerial Photographs
Students who successfully complete this tutorial should be able to:
- Practice setting up a workspace
- Demonstrate how to find and download NAIP and Landsat imagery data from the internet
- Use ArcMap to georeference an aerial photograph with an unknown spatial reference
Use the link above to navigate to the image page. Right-click on the image and “select save image as…”, then save the nospatialreference.jpg to your originals folder.

Note: The location of the Landsat 8 data has changed recently. You can find L8 OLI/TIRS C1 Level-1 data sets by going to Landsat Archive, then Collection 1 Level-1.
When you locate the image you want, use the download options button.
The Download Options window appears. Choose Level-1 GeoTIFF Data Product.
The file will begin downloading immediately. It may take about 5 minutes to download.
